What is JSON?
JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a text format for structured data. APIs, configuration files and many databases use it. It is built from objects (key–value pairs in curly braces), arrays (lists in square brackets), strings in double quotes, numbers, true, false and null.
Common reasons JSON is invalid
- Keys or strings in single quotes instead of double quotes.
- A trailing comma after the last item in an object or array.
- Comments, which standard JSON does not allow.
- Unquoted keys, such as
{name: 1}instead of{"name": 1}.
Working with JSON in Python? Python's built-in json module converts between JSON text and dictionaries with json.loads() and json.dumps().
