What each utility is for
- Base64 turns any data into plain text characters, so it can travel safely inside JSON, URLs, emails or HTML. It is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it.
- URL encode replaces characters that have special meanings in URLs (spaces,
&,?,=…) with%codes, so values can be placed safely in query strings. - UUID generates random, practically unique identifiers, useful as database keys or request ids.
- Hash produces a fixed-length fingerprint of text. The same input always gives the same hash, which is useful for checking that data has not changed.
- Timestamp converts Unix time (seconds since 1 January 1970, UTC) to readable dates and back.
- HTML entities escape characters like
<and&so text is displayed rather than interpreted as HTML.
The same in Python
base64.b64encode(), urllib.parse.quote(), uuid.uuid4(), hashlib.sha256(), datetime.fromtimestamp() and html.escape() do the same jobs in your own scripts.
